Name: Stephanie Michelle Thornton
Birthday: Jan 18 1985
Seasons Competing: uuhh, one very impromptu ride in the KLW Open 2008
Sponsor shout out: I’d like to thank Ally, The Wake Institute, and the Buckhorn Yacht Harbor (unofficial sponsors) for encouraging me to ride and providing the means to do so.
Hometown: Buckhorn! Ontario
Current residence: England
Where is your riding crew based out of? The Kawartha Lakes
Board set up: Whatever Ally, The Wake Institute, or the Buckhorn Yacht Harbor provide me with.
What is your favourite thing about wakeboarding? The sport adapts to your level, physical condition, or mood. You can just chill out and do deep carves if you just want to relax, or you can go big if you are feeling aggressive.
Where is your absolute favourite place to ride? Anywhere quite, friendly, beautiful and calm.
Favourite Animal: My Puppy
Favourite Rider: Ally Boothroyd because she has so much passion for and involvement in wakeboarding
Favourite Trick: The “no-feet-in-bindings lay-down on the board, foot in handle” as perfected by Jeremy Eckford
Favourite Music: Iron and Wine, Natalie Merchant, Joe Purdy, The Be Good Tanyas, Incubus, Metric, Neil Young….anything chill with a groove and soul (hence why I love the Transgression film so much).
What are some of your best results? Invisible participation ribbon for riding in the Kawartha Lakes Wakeboard Open.
What are your goals for 2008 riding season? Ride as much as possible, push myself, and have fun!
What are some of your thoughts on female wakeboarding at the pro level? I think there is some big talent out there and that with some confidence and aggressiveness from the riders, and more support from the industry, we could see a lot more girls on the pro scene.
How do you feel about the Canadian female wakeboard scene?? Again, I know there is some big talent in Canada, but we have to put a little more work and commitment into making it here because we have a short season to ride. Hopefully with new wetsuit technology we can change that…
What are your future plans with wakeboarding? Next summer I plan to buy an old skool ski boat just barely able to pull me so I can wakeskate every day
What is the steeziest trick you have ever seen? Jay Poole’s raily over Ally Boothroyd’s head
Craziest thing you have ever done? Left a life and people I loved very much to go work on a cruise ship and travel half the world for 6 months. Luckily most of the people and a lot of the life were still there when I got back.
