Sarah Kingdom
July 22nd, 2010 | Profiles
Name: Sarah Kingdom
Nickname: Sarah K, Saz, ‘oi Kingdom!’
Wakeboard/Wakeskate: Wakeboard
Birthday: 21st Feb
Sign: Pisces, it’s like it was meant to be!
Hometown: little place outside London, Gerrards Cross, Bucks, UK
Current residence: Chertsey, Surrey, UK
Sponsor shout out: Slingshot, Purus Active Health, Clear Training, Wide-A-Wake.com
Set up: Slingshot Drama, Slingshot Jewel bindings
Pull of choice? Tough call, love both cable and boat, but if no financial restriction, I’d have to say my heart’s with boat.
Seasons Competing: 3
Places you have traveled to for wakeskating? Ok, Finland, Spain, Holland, Turkey, Scotland, South Africa, America, Australia, Philippines. I think that’s the lot!
Where is your riding crew based out of? Mosly JBSki at Thorpe, Surrey. It’s a cable and boat park 2 minutes from my house.
What is your favourite thing about wakeskating? Totally focussing on being on the water, not being distracted by life’s annoying chores, having real ‘me time’. It’s the ultimate life balancer. LOVE IT!
Where is your absolute favourite place to ride? Probably with Scotty Kell of Black Diamond on the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney, Australia. My brother lives out there, so it’s always good times with people I love, on holiday, doing what I love. Can’t get better.
Favourite Rider: Female – Emily Bebbington. She’s the steeziest chick out there and watching her glide effortlessly all over the rails makes me want to weep! Guys – Ben Hitch, in total contrast to Em, he’s like a raging animal out on the water, his passion and aggression when riding makes me totally buzz!
Favourite Animal: Any dog, I’m a real soppy dog person.
Power Animal: Fox
Favourite Trick: Switch Krypt
Favourite Music: All sorts! Massive Silverchair fan, but right now loving a bit of Summer ragga toons courtesy of Toots and the Maytals, gotta love Funky Kingston!
What are some of your best results? 2009, Silver Medal at European Cable Championships, 2009, 2008, 2007, UK National Cable Masters Champion, 2008 Wakestock Amateur winner, 2007 UK Open Boat Champion
What are your goals for 2010 riding season? I’ve just come back from knee surgery, so I’ll mostly be getting really strong ready for 2011, but maybe I’ll be good for a few smaller contests at the end of the season, we’ll have to see.
What are some of your thoughts on female wakeboarding at the pro level? The pro’s are now becoming role models, part of wakeboard ‘wish lists’ dream comp runs, it’s great, and gold for participation at entry level and beyond. It’s also really pushing the overall standard of the girls. Only 3 season’s ago a raley was a real crowd pleaser, now it’s a compulsory element to a trick run. It’s great and bodes well for the future of women’s wakeboarding.
What are your future plans with wakeboarding? I plan to ride and compete for as long as I’m still having the time of my life! It’s all about having fun, the training and learning comes easy as long as it’s still fun.
What is the steeziest trick you have ever seen? Probably watching Gary Stelfox on a short line. This guy is a powerhouse at the best of times, but I’ve never seen anyone ever get that much air time, it was insane!
Craziest thing you have ever done? Travel half way around the world to go wakeboarding for 2 weeks because I had a row with my boss. That’s quite logical really isn’t it?
Props to anyone? Obviously Slingshot, Purus, Clear Training and Wide-a-Wake.com, but all my boys and girls who keep it fun and keep me loving wakeboarding, even when I break myself. Love you all x Big up to Ally at Throw it Down for fuelling the passion and keeping all the girls ‘across the pond’ as excited as the Brits xxx
