Name: Emily Pattison
Birthday: Oct 8….year isn’t that important.
Seasons Competing: I’ve been involved in the wake scene for almost 10 yrs…wow, time flys. I started wakeboarding first, then 6 years ago me along with Garry Munce started Sattelyte Wakeskates. I’ll compete in the odd fun competition, but normally I’m there supporting my team.
Sponsor shout out: Sattelyte Wakeskates!!!
Hometown: Guelph ON
Current Residence: Colllingwood ON
Where is your riding crew based out of? Our crew is all over the world, but the Ontario crew mainly rides out of Wasaga area.
Where have you traveled for wakeskating? Most recently across Germany.
What is your favourite thing about wakeskating? I love that its instant smiles when you get on the water. Its all about fun, and surrounding yourself with good people.
Favourite Animal: Penguin.
Favourite Rider: The Sattelyte Boys obviously are all some of my fav riders. I would also say Stuart Shinn, Reed Hansen and Savannah Barber
Favourite Trick: My fav trick to see changes frequently, with the sport evolving so fast it seems that theres always something new to fall in love with. I do love watching big wake to wake big spins.
What are some of your best results? I would have to say one of our biggest accomplishments as a business is getting recognized in SBC business. They chose 4 canadian companies to profile, and they chose us for wake. Honestly though, I get syked every time we get an article or photo in a magazine.
What are your goals for 2008 riding season? My goals for the upcoming season is the be doing solid shuvs of rails, 3 shuvs, and bigger wake to wakes.
What are some of your thoughts on female wakeskating at the pro level? I would love to see a women’s category on a pro level at all comps. But there needs to be more girls out there willing to compete. With out participation, it will never progress. But we saw it in wakeboarding and that to progressed and now the women are absolutely killing it. Its just going to take some time, but I know the womens wakeskate scene will grow into its own.
How do you feel about the Canadian female wakeskate scene?? I know a bunch of women that tear it up in Canada. The thing that I see in Ontario, and this relates back to the pro level is that there still isn’t a lot of girls competing in Ontario anyway. I think this summer you will see more camps offering girls wakeskate weeks, and more comps directed towards female riding. Its on the rise, we just need to keep pushing it.
What do you think needs to be done to help develop the Canadian female wakeskate scene? Like I said before I think we need to see more girls only camps and comps. Having girls push each other to achieve new heights in riding is really beneficial.
What are your future plans with wakeskating? My plans are to keep on going with Sattelyte. Garry and I are going to keep pushing the limits making quality boards. I would also like to put a focus on doing more grassroots events.
What is the steeziest trick you have ever seen? Seeing Stuart Shinn’s no grab wake to wake 3 shuv was pretty off the hook.
Craziest thing you have ever done? personally, I think the craziest thing I’ve ever done is sky diving in Arizona. Amazing rush, and would totally do it again.
Props to anyone? Sattelyte Crew! my family and friends, they’ve all been so supportive. Analog, Gravis, and Anon.
