OPERATION WAKE CAMP: YOU RIDE… WE GUIDE

On March 5-7, 2011, a three day wake camp was held in CWC. A total of 40 participants signed up for Oakley’s Operation Wake Camp: You Ride… We Guide Program. The camp was opened for all who want to learn how to wakeboard and wakeskate, ages range from 14 and above. The wake module was prepared for beginners to advanced riders by some of the world’s top wakeboarders. These coaches are team riders under Republ1c Wake. The participants were composed of mostly Filipino locals but foreigners from Poland, UK and Australia joined as
well.

During the first day, a small program was started by an orientation, warm up and demos by the coaches. This was followed by two days coaching and the last day was free-riding for all. A lot of freebies were given away during the
event. Culminating event during the two nights at the camp was consisted by film showing of wakeboarding videos and drinking games like Beer Pong and Flip-cups. Special awards were given during the last night for Most Improved Beginner and Intermediate Riders, Most Energetic Rider and Rider with the Best
Attitude.

“We organized this camp to promote the sport and make the wake community grow bigger in a country where the best cable park in the world exist,” said by Diana de Castro (rider for Oakley, Reef and DC). “I think, the Philippines should produce the next world champion,” she added. Wakeboarding is one of the newest action board sport and it is a growing sport in the country specially more and more cable parks are opening soon. It is also a good workout and bonding time for families and friends.
